Jame's Leveling Addon - Work in Progress

Most of you probably already heard about it. Yes, all the wow-pro leveling guides are finally being converted into an addon format.

There will actually be two addon formats and the community will make sure that they both get supported and updated.

Why? Well simply because both addons are very good, but have slight differences, and a poll has shown that people are very divided on which of the two addons they prefer. So we'll keep both of them ;)

Let me introduce them to you in a nutshell:

WoW-Pro Custom

WoW-Pro Addon Info Page

A custom made addon for wow-pro, coded by Jahwo, a wow-pro member.

The advantage of this addon over the other is that it stays closer to the appearance of my guides in terms of text formatting. It uses the same color codes. Basically, it looks more like my guides.

It looks great and it has most cool features you want in a leveling addon: an arrow tells you where to go, steps get automatically completed once you're done with them, etc. More features will be added in the future whenever necessary.

List of finished guides:

Alliance
Horde

Please note that these chapters have been coded by the addon creator himself, so they have a very nice quality.

TourGuide WoWPro

And then there's the other addon format, TourGuide.

The advantage of this addon is that it takes less space than the other one on your screen, it is very minimalist. It only takes one line of text:

And when there is more information, all you have to do is hover over the window with your mouse pointer and the extra information pops up:

TourGuide uses the very cool TomTom addon to give you directions in game:

It also has the auto-completion step detection feature, as well as another cool feature: when a quest requires you to use a certain item (like a torch for example), an icon automatically appears and clicking it makes you use the item, without having to look for it in your bags.

List of finished guides:

Alliance
  • Snowflake's Draenei Guide (1-12)
  • Boston's Gnome/Dwarf Guide (1-12)
  • Boston's Leveling Guide (12-20)
  • Boston's Leveling Guide (20-30)
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide (30-40)
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide (40-50)
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide (50-60)
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide - Hellfire Penninsula
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide - Zangarmarsh
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide - Terokkar
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide - Nagrand
  • Jame's Alliance Leveling Guide - Blade's Edge Mountains
Horde
  • Snowflake's Ghostlands Guide (13-21)
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide (21-31)
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Hellfire Peninsula
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Zangarmarsh
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Terokkar Forest
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Nagrand | Black Cat
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Howling Fjord (70-71)
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Borean Tundra (71-73)
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Dragonblight (73-75)
  • Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Grizzly Hills (75-77) {~80% complete}
Please note that many of those chapters haven't yet been tested, so there might be a few glitches here and there. However, I've tried a few of them and so far it's been great.

The wow-pro community is already working hard on more chapters, so expect to see new releases almost every day from now on ;)

super excited about both of these, wish i was a bit more savvy so i could help get all the guides implemented. thanks a bunch to everyone who is hard at work on these! you're gonna save me a fortune in paper and ink :P

I still haven't tested the addons but will do the next time I level up a char. I'll wait until more guides are coded into it and then try to make a char from scratch with the addons only.

    Awesome news as always Jame!
I can't wait for your own personal addon to level my alts (or my new mains as the case my be; stupid hacking epidemic!). Speaking of which, have you had any problems with this account hacking epidemic around these days?

    Jame says:

Hmm no, haven't had any problem with hacking, ever :p

Make sure you check out the TourGuide editor if you are interested in making any TourGuide scripts or editing the Alliance scripts I made.

I know this may be a silly question but is there a list of who's working on what guide? Because I'd like to work on one for the WoWPro addon, and don't really want to work on something someone else is doing

    Jame says:

    Yes there is of course.

I just added links at the bottom of this blog entry.

Is it possible to use these in-game guides in the French version of the game?

    Anonymous says:

Publishing an add-on for your already AMAZING guide will put people like Zygor and Joana out of business! :)

    Jame says:

Yes Azziane, I see now reason why it wouldn't work.

And apparently it will be easy to replace all the quests with the french quest names, there's an automated function for that.

    Brad says:

Do you have any idea how well you can pick this addon up mid level range, say i am currently level 36 and i install the addon, will it pick up from my current level or do i have to go and do quests from level 30?

    Thanks!

    (super excited about tour guide)

    Jame says:

You can pick up midway fairly easily.

Pick the guide closest to your level range (in your case it would be Jame's 30-40).

Right-click on the tourguide bar and a list of objectives will appear.

It will auto detect the quests you've already done or picked up. Then you have to tick the other boxes until you reach the point where you are with your character.

Just ignore the level 30-35 sections. You'll maybe lack a few pre-quests at the start but eventually you'll get there.

If there are any long chains, try to backtrack and pick them up, but it's not mandatory anyway.

My point is, you will get back on track and you will end up ahead of the guide in levels at one point, because I've made it that way.

    Stephen says:

I just wanted to drop by and thank you again for the guides.

I've really enjoyed getting to 41 (dinged it on the exact points with the warn Bolvar series, well, as modified by the recent patch), and have had a lot of fun.

    Thanks again for updating them.

    Jame,

I am not sure if you meant that there is a way for me to convert your guide to make it work with my French version of the game, if you are planning on releasing a version that will work, or if the version that is out should work already.

As it is now the quests do not update (due to the quest names being in French in the game and english in the guide I presume).

If you could clarify i would appreciate it :)
